How to make a pitaya bowl without a blender
A pitaya bowl is a dragon fruit bowl: hot pink, bright and fruity. Scoop 2/3 cup of Dragon Fruit & Pineapple sorbet, add your toppings and eat. No blender.
A pitaya bowl is built like an açaí bowl, in hot pink: a cold, fruity base with toppings. Pitaya is another name for dragon fruit, and the bright pink comes from the fruit itself. Here is how to make one in a few minutes, with no blender.
What is a pitaya bowl?
A pitaya bowl is a smoothie-style bowl made with pink dragon fruit, usually with banana or pineapple, and topped with fruit, granola and coconut. The pink-fleshed kind of dragon fruit gives the bowl its color.
What do you need for a pitaya bowl?
- A pint of Dragon Fruit & Pineapple sorbet. It is mostly dragon fruit and pineapple, and its ingredient list has no added color: the pink is the fruit's own.
- A bowl, and a 2/3-cup scoop or measuring cup.
- Toppings. Banana, strawberry and coconut suit pitaya well, and granola adds crunch.
How do you make a pitaya bowl without a blender?
- Scoop. Take the pint from the freezer and scoop 2/3 cup into the bowl. A scoop dipped in warm water goes through firm sorbet more easily. Put the pint straight back in the freezer.
- Top. Fan sliced banana around one side, add halved strawberries, and finish with coconut flakes.
- Eat. Right away, while it is cold. Sorbet softens quickly at room temperature.

What does a pitaya bowl taste like?
Bright, fruity and gently sweet. Dragon fruit on its own is mild, often compared to kiwi or pear. The pineapple in our sorbet gives it a tropical, slightly tangy lift.
What are the best toppings for a pitaya bowl?
Pink looks best with white and red on top: banana, coconut and strawberry. Kiwi or blueberries add contrast if you have them, and granola brings the crunch. For layouts that work on any bowl, see Açaí bowl toppings.
Can you mix pitaya and açaí in one bowl?
Yes. A scoop of Dragon Fruit & Pineapple next to a scoop of Organic Açaí Original Sensation makes a two-color bowl, pink and deep purple, with no extra work.
How much sorbet goes in a pitaya bowl?
2/3 cup, the serving size on our pint. A 16.9 fl oz pint gives about three bowls.
