Accessibility statement

What we aim for

austropical.co is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. When we change a page we check it at phone and desktop widths, with a keyboard and with automated tests. The menu, the forms, flavor discovery and the pack gallery are built to work with a keyboard and a screen reader.

What that means on the site

• Text and background colors are chosen to meet the AA contrast ratio, including on the colored flavor pages.
• Every image that carries meaning has a text description; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Headings, landmarks and a skip link make each page navigable by keyboard, and every control shows where the focus is.
• Most films are silent, and every silent film, or set of films, has a visible Pause button. Where a film shows words, they are also in the page. The one film with speech, in the açaí sorbet post, never starts by itself, has player controls and English captions on by default (Portuguese is available), and has a full transcript on the page.
• If your device asks for reduced motion, films do not start by themselves (press Play to watch), and the floating, sliding and scroll effects are switched off.
• 3D is optional. On the flavor pages the pint, cup and bucket are still pictures; a 3D model loads only if you press “Turn it in 3D”, and not at all with Data Saver on. Everything the model shows is also in the page as text.
• The site works without JavaScript: forms fall back to an email, the pack gallery shows its still pictures, and the Nutrition Facts for the pint and the cup are both shown.
